GIFTS FOR 2 YEAR OLDS WHO ARE ACTIVE AND INDEPENDENT

gift ideas for 2 year olds

I can hardly believe that AJ is almost TWO YEARS OLD! I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect birthday gifts for her, so I put together this list of gifts for two year olds if you're also looking. These gifts are great options for toddler boys or girls.

If you use any of these gifts with your two year old, shoot me a message on Instagram and let me know how your toddler likes them!

This blog may contain affiliate links, meaning I will make a commision if you choose to buy. Please know I'm recommending these items because I love them, most of the companies I work with I reached out to after using their product. If you do decide to buy I'd be stoked if you clicked the links.

Please send me an email if any links or codes aren't working, thank you!

1. BuggyBoard

I've been going back and forth with which double stroller to buy, but I may not need one after all. A friend of mine had this BuggyBoard attached to her stroller, and we let AJ test it out- she LOVED it. So I've already picked it up, and it’s been a hit even though she’s not quite two yet. Keeping a toddler entertained is HARD! We’ve been trying to get outside more, and the BuggyBoard gives us another way to get some fresh air.

The BuggyBoard attaches right to the back of our stroller and gives AJ a platform to stand on instead of riding in the seat. She has so much fun because she gets to be more active than just sitting in the stroller during our walks. And my pregnant body gets a break from carrying her!

CON: It does take a little bit to get this attached to the stroller. I'm actually still trying to figure out the best positioning, but it's been worth the hassle so far. I bought the mini and wish I'd spent the extra $10 on the regular sized one.

2. Balance bike

Balance bikes are SUCH a fun way for babes to learn how to… balance on the bike! It's a great independent way for our kids to get around on their own while learning a great new skill and stimulate that vestibular system! We started the balance bike on the rocker, and now that it's warming up, we take this thing around and she's loving it.

PRO TIP: When your child wants to walk and you're left carrying this thing, grab it from the seat instead of the handlebars- much more stable!

3. Play Tool Workbench

I’m SO excited to gift this to AJ for her birthday! My dad is a contractor, and whenever we visit him, AJ loves “working” with him. This is going to be so fun for her to tinker with. She’ll learn how to work with tools, which will make visiting Grandpa’s workshop just that much cooler. Plus she’ll be working on motor skills- which make this the perfect gift for 2 year olds!

4. Balance Board

Okay, this is Seth’s pick for AJ’s 2nd birthday. Seth snowboards or “boards”, so he likes that the Wobble Board can be used to encourage balance. He’s trying to get AJ to the mountain next winter. TBD on that haha.

The Wobble Board is great for promoting balance, but it’s actually a piece of “Montessori furniture,” so it can be used in a lot of different ways. It gives toddlers a way to let out some energy even if they’re stuck inside (hello, spring snowstorms in Minnesota). Plus, if you're not using it to balance, you can flip it over to create an arch to crawl over and under. It can also be used for lounging or as a table. I am an affiliate with this company because I love that they're non toxic, they ship for free, and the board is a little bigger (35 inches). This one on Amazon is a little cheaper, a bit smaller (27.5 inches), and has felt on the bottom.

BONUS: both options hold up to 200 lbs… so you can balance too!

5. Mess Free Coloring Kit

AJ loves to color, but as someone also trying to protect your home, do you ever find yourself hovering and peppering in comments like, “uh oh, keep the markers on the paper!”?! Well, then this is for you.
This Mess Free Coloring Kit includes markers that only show color on the paper that comes with the kit. This is going to do two amazing things: 1. Allow your babe some independence and freedom from constant hovering and 2. Allow you to take a few minutes of peace for yourself!

6. Paint with Water set!

The mess free markers are amazing, but aren't necessarily eco friendly (once the paper is used on those… it's done). if you're looking for something more sustainable, check out this paint with water set. You fill the “marker” up with water, and as soon as it touches the paper, it transforms the white to a color. Then, it dries back to white and you can use it over and over again!
I've also found that it's pretty calming to just color haha!

7. Kinetic Sand

This is truly magic, and AJ is definitely getting some more for her birthday. This kit includes the sand and three molds. It's an all in one option. These plastic tubs are great for making an indoor sandbox for the days that are too cold/ hot to go outside. (For some reason Amazon doesn't sell just one, so here it at target.)

I loath sand, but this sticks together and is really awesome. You can also grab some colorful popsicle sticks. A friend of mine uses construction truck toys, shot glasses, etc. Grab whatever you have!

8. Painting

Sometimes the things on my list don't make it to the birthday. I buy them early because I'm so excited about them! That's the case here. However, I haven’t been brave enough to give them to AJ yet. I'm too intimidated by the mess! But my friend assures me this is how you keep it clean:
1. Throw this cheap bed sheet down (or any old sheet you have) under babe, to protect the floors and kind of contain the mess. Next… cross my fingers and hope for the best! haha

We have this easel and paper role, which AJ has already been using to color on. The back is a blackboard too, so that's handy- chalk dust seems so much more manageable. The easel didn't come with a TON of paper so I also ordered another roll. It did come with little cups for the paint, but not brushes (so I got these).
I’ve included a couple different smocks below that I’m going to use to protect her clothes, if I even put clothes on her.

Okay, here's what we got:
Cheap bed sheet
Easel that includes paper and cups but not brushes
Brushes
Paint
Smock

GOOD LUCK!

We have also taken this outside. I just grabbed one of my (million) amazon boxes, a brush, and paint and let her go wild outside!

I hope these gift ideas are helpful! I keep adding to this list, you can find the full list of my fav items to keep toddlers busy here.
